About CEAC

The Centre of Excellence in Art & Culture Research (CEAC) is a research-driven institution dedicated to the study, preservation, and promotion of Indian art, culture, and heritage through interdisciplinary, practice-based, and experiential learning.

Rooted in the rich legacy of Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath and supported by its art galleries and museum, CEAC offers direct engagement with the living art ecosystem, encouraging research, dialogue, and innovation across artistic disciplines

Research-Oriented Programmes Offered

Introductory Course: Appreciation of Indian Art

Open to All | 32 Sessions | 64 Hours | Hybrid Mode

This course offers an introductory yet in-depth understanding of Indian art traditions, visual, literary and critical ways of seeing art. The programme introduces participants to a wide spectrum of Indian art forms—ranging from learning how to observe an artwork and understand
elements of art, to exploring painting traditions, temple architecture, sculpture, performing art and effective methods of viewing museums and galleries.

Designed as a structured hybrid programme, the course encourages learners to observe, analyse, and interpret art through lectures, discussions, experiential learning, and guided visits.

Modules:

  • Module I: Learning to See & Understand Art
  • Module II: Indian Thought, Traditions & Sacred Spaces
  • Module III: Visual Narratives, Forms & Practices
  • Module IV: Institutions, Contemporary Practices & Engagemen

Course Structure:

  • Total Sessions: 32 (including 4 on-site visits)
  • Duration: 16 Saturdays | 2 sessions per Saturday | 64 hours
  • Session Duration: 2 hours
  • Commences: February 2026

Timings:

  • Session 1: 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
  • Session 2: 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM

PhD Programme

Research & Doctoral Studies

The PhD Programme at CEAC promotes interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary, art-practice based research in Visual Arts, Art History, Cultural Studies, Heritage Studies, and Museology. Aligned with the norms of Bangalore University, the programme supports original research through access to galleries, museums, fieldwork opportunities, original artworks, and mentorship from scholars, artists, and professionals across disciplines.

The programme encourages innovative research methodologies and critical inquiry, enabling scholars to contribute meaningfully to academic discourse, cultural policy, and heritage conservation practices. Researchers benefit from CEAC’s rich archival resources, institutional collaborations, and immersive research environment

Research Projects

The Centre of Excellence also provides opportunities for independent research scholars to pursue research projects with mentorship from senior reputed scholars, benefiting from the institution’s library, archival resources, and research facilities.

Integrated MA Programmes

Expanding Knowledge | Master’s Level

CEAC proposes two specialised integrated postgraduate programmes designed under Section 66 of the Karnataka State University Act, 2000:

  • MA in Art Management & Museum Studies (AMMS)
  • MA in Cultural Studies & Heritage Management (CSHM)

These programmes combine strong theoretical foundations with hands-on training, field studies, curatorial practice, and professional interaction, preparing students for careers in museum practice, cultural research, heritage management, and art administration. Students gain practical exposure through institutional projects, site-based learning, and interaction with practitioners, equipping them with industry-relevant skills and critical perspectives required in the contemporary cultural sector. Eligibility: Candidates with B.A, B.Sc, B.Com, BVA, BBA, BPA background.
